Mahila Seva Samaja, an INTACH Heritage Tag recipient established in 1913 for women empowerment celebrated its 110th Anniversary with a vibrant, colourful splendor and a cultural fervor.
The Chief Guest Mr.Arun Sagar a theatre personality captivated the audience with his signature styled address.
The student artists of the school trained by Mr.Shrinivas Sasthan and group, picked up the nuances and graces of Yakshagana in a short period and performed the episode “Samudra Mathana” – from ‘Vishnu Purana’.
The identity of this independent cultural dance form from the Karavali region of Karnataka lies in the striking colourful costumes and make-up, rhythmic foot-work, agility, body language, facial expressions and voice modulations of the characters which are harmoniously blended with the classical vocal support and the beats and vibrations of the percussion instruments exclusive to it.
The audience in the jam-packed auditorium were enthralled and enjoyed an entertainment-packed evening as they watched the churning of Amrutha from the sea, the battles between Gods and Asuras and its placement in the safe hands of the Gods.
