SUPW

Socially useful productive Work:  Every Saturday is year marked for SUPW club periods, the following clubs have been established for students of classes 1 to 10.

1. Electronics

In these classes they are taught the basics of electronics, the parts of the computer, basics of the internet, Computer hardware and software.  Repair of CPU and laptop.  Each year the students are given a project.  This is the project Automatic Dispenser of Sanitizer.

2. Art and Craft

Art and Craft are taught to students to make paper bags, quilling bead work and making clay ganesha idols, painting diya’s .

3. Music

Music has always been a part of samaja as heritage weekly music classes are held students are  trained to sing during the annual Thyagaraja and Purandasa music festival Amruthavarshini, music scholarships are regularly given to students.

4. Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a part of the SUPW. Clubs were conducted in two different formations which help in coordination and body balance.  It’s a wonderful exercise for the entire body.  The students of the gymnastics club give a presentation on Sports day.  They are trained by famous Gym teachers.

5. Interact

The Interact and Kinder act of our school are associated with the Rotary club of Bangalore continent.  Interact is for students for 12 to 18 yrs, while kinder act is for students between 10 and 12 yrs.  They bring together the students to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of service above self.  They undertake at least two service community  projects .  They also conduct workshops for younger students and participate in Rotary youth leadership awards.

Every year an inter school quiz is conducted by the Interact club of our school.  We have a good turnout of alleast 25 schools from Bangalore participating in it.  Our school has clamed a niche in the quiz programme.  The interactor learns to work in groups and learn social skills adjusting with pears and accepting individual differences as part of reality.

Kinderact Club activity

Guides, Scouts, Bulbuls and Cubs

There are dedicated Scouts and Guides teachers who train the cubs, bulbuls , scouts and guides with required training which is age appropriate and students are awarded badges after every training.  This helps the motto of the scouts and guides which is prepared and helps out students to be prepared for life.

School Excursion / Field Trip

The school recognized the importance of excursions and field trips for all-round education even in the 1920s. Visiting villages and factories left a strong impression on the young minds.

Visit to Gram Panchayat

Over the years, the children have been taken to a variety of places including  Bannerghatta National Park, Jog Falls, Tata Institute, Bhadravathi Iron & Steel works and other factories, Imperial Dairy and Hebbal Miltary Farm and Villages.
Notably they also visited Shantiniketan in the year of Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary.

Library

A library is a treasure trove of information and knowledge for students, Samaja has a huge collection of books ranging from  Encyclopedia, Subject books, literature books, Story books, Fiction and non-fiction , Science discoveries.  We also have magazines.  Children are encouraged to borrow books from the library.  Every class has a library period where the students’ reading ability is horned.

The Kamalamma Dasappa Memorial Library was upgraded with state-of-the-art infrastructure during the Centenary Celebrations and is housed in the Centenary Building inside the school premises. It is now renamed as Kamala Kuppuswamy Library crediting its new donor for the liberal contribution.

Yakshagana

Started in 2008, Yakshagana performances are given by the students each year. Smt. Revathi Suresh, a member of the Samaja’s Managing Committee, introduced this art to staff and students and is the driving force behind this. This performance has music, dance and dialogues. There is focused training on dialogue delivery and the vigorous dance form involves a lot of physical activity.

The teachers were also encouraged to learn and give a performance on stage in the year 2010. Some of the students performed so well that they were selected to be part of an external troupe.

Yoga

Improves Physical Strength balance mental health and flexibility.  It helps the students immensely to increase their stamina and concentration.  We have well trained yoga teachers to train the students of classes 5 to 10 on a weekly basis.

Astro Club

A club was started in our school in the year 2021.  In association with the alumni of 1972, we have a ten inch Newtonian telescope, two 6 inch dobsonian telescopes and two high definition binoculars and a camera.  Every Saturday the Astro club members which includes students from 6th to 10th have theory sessions by the mentor Shri P G Diwakar, an alumni of our school and Ex-ISRO employee, eminent scientists from ISRO and Nehru planetarium, present details about the different planets, working of telescope and other related topics under Astronomy the students enjoy the same.

Icing on the cake was the view of the lunar eclipse on November 8th , the students also captured the images of Jupiter and its moons, Saturn with its rings and craters on the moon.  The students are divided into different constellation groups and present their topics which are judged by experts and prizes are given away.

Amruthavarshini - the Annual Music Festival

 MSS has been encouraging music for many years. We conduct Amruthavarshini, an annual festival of Thyagaraja and Purandara Dasa festival.  It is an ideal platform for encouraging students of all ages to excel in music. An exhibition on themes related to music is part of its festival.  A noted musician is invited as the chief guest and also performs  for the students and teachers.  Thyagaraja kruthis  and Purandara Dasa geethe are sung in groups, to name the few famous music personalities who performed include Smt. Anusuya Kulkarni, Praveen Godkhindi, Nilanjana Sen, Rabindra Sangeet, Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma.   Every year the music festival is dedicated to a music legend.
